Broadcast live from London on 10 October 2025, New Music International (NMI) continues its global journey through jazz, ambient, experimental electronics and borderless club sounds.

Curated by The GRIN.io, this week’s edition moves through spiritual improvisation, modular meditations, hybrid bass mutations and traditional forms reimagined for the future.

Each selection connects continents — from Bristol’s deep dub laboratories to Tokyo’s glitch studios, from Istanbul’s cosmic psych to Arnhem Land’s ancestral chants — reflecting a worldwide network of musical imagination.

Tom Skinner – “The Maxim (feat. Meshell Ndegeocello)”

Brownswood / International Anthem — released 26 Sep 2025
London drummer-producer Tom Skinner expands his palette on Kaleidoscopic Visions, pairing intuitive piano improvisations with psychedelic textures and cameos from Portishead’s Adrian Utley and bassist-vocalist Meshell Ndegeocello. “The Maxim” is a smoky centrepiece; Skinner’s polyrhythms orbit Ndegeocello’s velvet basslines in a dialogue that bridges UK jazz and trans-Atlantic soul.

Eusebeia – “Triumph” from The Wyrding Way (LIVITY070)

Bristol producer Eusebeia (Seb Uncles) brings introspective depth to Livity Sound’s catalogue. The Wyrding Way is an ambient-leaning jungle suite “evoking Radiophonic textures and pastoral Boards-of-Canada landscapes”. “Triumph” drifts between submerged breakbeats and warm synth washes — a meditative close to an already transcendent record.

Layla Rehana & Sebastian Mullaert – “Lullaby for the Wandering Tides”

Barcelona-based sound artist Layla Rehana and Swedish techno mystic Sebastian Mullaert (Minilogue, Circle of Live) craft tidal, slow-breathing electronica. Their Solar Paint EP juxtaposes field-recorded textures with modular improvisations; Bigamo described the lead single as “a lullaby that blurs the edge between ritual and dream.”

Islandman – “Eros” from Island 5

Turkish trio Islandman extend their signature fusion of Anatolian folk and cosmic electronics. “Eros” unfolds through slo-mo funk and vaporous synths recorded in Berlin, sliding between Balearic calm and ecstatic release.

Max Graef – “Superswiss (Atmosphere Mix)”

Berlin beat-maker Max Graef revisits his cult LP Rivers of the Red Planet for its 10-year anniversary. The Atmosphere Mix of “Superswiss” is warm, dubbed-out soul — layered horns and MPC drums glowing in analog dust.

Ashkara – “Shardet Legzaleh” from Fake Lines: Sono Levant

Levantine producer Ashkara contributes a microtonal groove to Fake Lines: Sono Levant, a 36-track compilation uniting artists from Syria, Lebanon and the wider diaspora. The project, benefiting grassroots initiatives in Palestine, channels resilience through hypnotic percussion and maqam-based melodies.

Nils Petter Molvær – “Solid Ether” from Khmer Live in Bergen

The Norwegian trumpeter revisits his landmark 1997 album Khmer in a visceral live recording. “Solid Ether” captures Molvær’s molten fusion of jazz improvisation and electronic ambience — his horn slicing through shimmering drones and breakbeat drums.

French duo O’o (Victoria Suter & Mathieu Daubigné) merge chanson, field recordings and ambient pop. “Foetus” unfolds like a dream, whispering vocals over glistening synths — described by InFiné as “music for glistening plant organisms and estranged lovers.”

Waak Waak Djungi – “Black Crow”

A landmark of Indigenous Australian music. Yolngu songmen collaborate with producer Peter Mumme, blending ceremonial chant with ambient electronics. “Black Crow” is both an elegy and celebration — a dialogue between ancient knowledge and studio alchemy.

Thundercat – “Children of the Baked Potato (feat. Remi Wolf)”

The LA virtuoso returns with joyful absurdity. Over nimble funk basslines and playful synths, Remi Wolf joins Thundercat in paying homage to the iconic jazz club The Baked Potato — a delirious slice of neon soul.

Finnish pianist Aki Rissanen re-imagines Wayne Shorter’s classic through lyrical minimalism and crystalline trio interplay with Antti Lötjönen and Teppo Mäkynen. Edition Records describes him as “one of Europe’s most inventive pianists.”
